Community Dental Portland moved from its Washington Avenue location to new facilities on Brighton Avenue (Rt. 25) and expanded to eight operatories in 2003. It is located approximately 2.5 miles east of the Maine Turnpike and 2 miles west of Interstate 295. The center occupies the first floor of its building.
The Portland Center partners with Maine Medical Center and Headstart to provide dental services and a dental home to adults and children identified as needing dental services. We provide care for patients living in local group homes and participate in the Cumberland County Denture Project. The United Way of Greater Portland allocates funds to provide limited reduced fee care to adults and children.
Dr. Jeffrey Walawender, DDS
Dr. Walawender joined Community Dental's staff in August, 2010. Dr. Walawender received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in May, 2009. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Togus, ME in July 2010. He has been active in community service, participating in various community outreaches with Buffalo Outreach and Community Assistance (BOCA), Dental Students International (DSI), and Good Neighbors Community Clinic.
Community Dental also partners with the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and Maine Medical Center in an Advanced Education General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program.
Dr. Audrey Stack, DDS
Dr. Stack joined Community Dental's staff in April, 2000. Dr. Stack received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry in 1984 and completed a Pediatric Dental Graduate Residency Program at Tufts University/New England Medical Center from 1984 to 1986. From 1992 to 1994 she was a Clinical Associate and Lecturer at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Before joining Community Dental, Dr. Stack practiced pediatric dentistry in private practice for 14 years.
Dr. Byron Escoe, DDS
Dr. Escoe graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1982. As a National Health Service Scholarship recipient, he completed a payback assignment as a Commissioned Officer in the US Public Health Service, assigned to the Indian Health Service in Pawhuska, OK. From this assignment , he gained extensive experience in Pediatric Dentistry.
In 1986, Dr. Escoe did an inter-service transfer to the US Navy. His Naval service included tours aboard the USS Ponce and USS Detroit, as well as assignments in Guam, Singapore and various locations along the East Coast. He completed extensive rotations in Oral Surgery, Periodontic, and Endodontics and in 1998 completed an Advanced Practice Residency in General Dentistry. Captain Escoe's last tour was Director and Senior Dental Officer at Branch Dental Clinic, Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine. In addition to his work at Community Dental, he works in private practice in Lisbon, Maine.
Dr. Escoe is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and has maintained an agressive continuing education program in postgraduate dentistry that includes implants, esthetics, periodontics, crown and bridge, root canals and surgery.
